Optimal image size

Would you say there is an optimal image size for the product. We are looking to make our store consistent with sizing and we were wondering if there was a recommended size for the product view

I agree that images should be nice and consistent... I like to make them with a minimum height or width of 800 pixels...

so 800x800 works good
or it can be different proportions, say 800x1000 or 800x1200

jpgs work best if they are optimized already via photoshop.
