Background goes black on product specific page.

On the store, cart and account pages I was able to change the background color with no problems. However on the product specific pages the background goes completely black and all the editing options disappear (including the WP bar at the top).

This sounds like the colors are inverted... you can go to easycart admin -> colorizer and select what type of background the store is sitting on... either a white background, which will give black text, or a dark background, where it will invert to white text. of course more CSS work can be done to customize text.
