Restrict Purchase to only specific customers

is there a way to restrict a purchase of an individual item to specific people? I considered a coupon code but do not want anyone purchasing the item unless they are permitted.

Well we have a way to restrict the entire store to a specific user group, yes... this is in our settings -> products section.

If you wanted to restrict a single product, you may need to put it on a page using shortcode, and then restrict it using just wordpress privacy controls on that page... The product is still really live, but nobody would find it really...
