Is it possible to get digital downloads to show that they have been downloaded in the order status, right now (paid for by paypal) they just show as third party approved which i the same for orders for our physical products, this means we have to search through a lot of digital download orders in order to find the far smaller number of physical orders

So 'Third Party Approved' is a payment status, and will have nothing to do with the download process. If a user checks out and pays with a credit card on your site, it will say 'Card Approved'. Currently we do not have anyway to list orders by downloads vs retail items in the orders panel. Maybe in v4 I can build something that would flag an item as 'Has Downloads' in it to make something like this clearer...
Right now, another way might be to export orders to excel? then you could sift through them all quicker if you had several hundred, might be easy way to identify order #'s with downloads? -
Ok, ths was something (maybe the only thing) that woocommerce did better, in that when people pay for digital downloads it automatically marks the order complete Since there is nothing else for the retailer to do with the orderComment
