Creating BOGO

I would like to create a promotion on a certain group of products where is they buy 1 item they receive the second item for free. They need to be able to select each item from within the group. Should this be done with a Promotion or a Coupon. I have tried both unsuccessfully.

I talked with development today and they released a BOGO system in our latest update.... I will be documenting this, but it is currently a new release feature and available.
